Vacuum is a space with nothing at all in it, an empty space. Blaise Pascal, a French philosopher said, “There is a God-shaped vacuum in the heart of every person and it can only be filled by God, made known through Jesus Christ.”
It’s true! Unfortunately, many people are filling that void (vacuum) with substitutes that replaces God in their hearts. Such as wealth, fame, success, fulfillment, and so on. They are filling that void with the wrong things.
According to Beth Jones, not only Unbelievers but also Believers often doing the same thing, filling God-shaped vacuum with substitutes for God Himself, even at times doing what seem to be ‘Christian things’. She said also that these substitutes are not necessarily bad but they don’t provide satisfation because filling that void with those substitutes is “like purchasing a fake designer bag, you know that it is fake but you’re trying to pretend that it’s real.”
When the God-shaped vacuum inside our hearts are not filled by God, we will be living in fear, anxiety, anger, jealousy, worry, fear of death, and so on.
Like what Pascal said, God-shaped vacuum in our hearts can only be filled by God. And there is no substitute for God!
To fill the God-shaped vacuum in our hearts, we need to SEEK GOD. When you seek, you will find (Matthew 7:7-8). When you call to the Lord and search Him with all your heart, He will listen and will be found by you (Jeremiah 29:12-14).
May we all seek and find God, and be filled with Him only!
